Oral presentations

For the orals i'm in a group with Andrea and Hyun-Moo and we'll be talking about photojournalism. We'll be presenting the lives and works of three different photographers. I'll be talking about Lewis Hine (mostly know for his work on child labour) and I'll also be giving a brief history/definition of photojournalism and what it encompasses.

Narrative Research

These narrative portraits get their impact not only from what we can see in the picture but from what we can assume about the person's life outside the frame (this is slightly less applicable to the fashion photos).    There is always a strong link between the subject and the environment, however the subject's facial expressions give us more insight into their lives. Generally speaking, when one stares into the camera, he/she seems more certain of themselves, their situation, their destiny. When one looks away we can almost sense that they're searching for something they can't seem to find. Body position is also very important. like facial expressions/directions, it creates a mood to the image; sometimes very delicate (1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th picture) and other times very strong and direct.
